Music

Music has been my main hobby for quite a while. I started out playing keyboards when I was about 20, doing mostly sound effects and fill work. I was purely a texturalist, a sound designer with very little traditional playing skill. Over the years I've learned to sing, play the bass and do a fair bit of songwriting as well. In 2002 I decided I'd try and see if I couldn't make a career out of it. That hasn't quite panned out yet... :) I've been in a bunch of bands including: Hookah, the Ethicals, and The Mesmers. Here's a sampling of some of my work:

Awayness

  1. Still Got Your Picture
  2. Ships
  3. Desert Island
  4. Walk Away From Yesterday (Gobi Mix)

A four-song EP/demo to start my solo effort: music of travel and "awayness" for your smiling road trips and soul-searching escapes. It's more upbeat stuff than the Mesmers and often has an early 80s "reggae-rock" feel. More info will be up at my solo site: fitzsongs.com

Hookah Demo - Hookah
Fall 2003

  1. Something In My Wine
  2. Black Door
  3. Inquietude
  4. The Peddler

This was the last band I was in (again). Things didn't work out which is a shame, because some of the material had real promise. With Sam Marsh on vocals, Jay Ridgeway on Guitar, Steve Garland on bass, Jeremy Zacheryl on alt percussion, a variety of drummers, and me on the keys and effects. Of the 11 songs we had set, only four made it to demo status. Here are clips of each.

The Reflection Collection
Summer 1994

  1. Mirror Mirror
  2. Club Hookah
  3. A Pooling of Tears
  4. Mirror Mirror - Cymbolic Mix

Recorded in 1994, this is a small collection of low-fi instrumentals based largely on samples of my band Hookah that had just broken up. All of these tracks were recorded with just a few sythesizers (Crumar Orchestrator, Kurzweil K2000, Roland Juno 2 and Korg Wavestation) on to a home stereo Sony tape deck. NO multitrack at all.
