The Mysterious Letter
7/31/2008
Life occasionally grants you a very sunny surprise. Like this:
Several weeks ago I received a mysterious letter from the Virginia Department of the Treasury Unclaimed Property Division, It stated that the division was holding property and/or funds of mine and that I needed to contact them. It gave no further details and I surmised it would be $30 or so from an overpayment to some utility company.
It wasn't till yesterday that I was able to actually reach a person at the number provided. The lady on the phone was very polite and asked me if I'd ever worked for a company called Logicon. "Yes", I replied, "but not for quite some time". "In 2002?" she asked. I told her that sounded about right. "Well" she continued "We are holding an unclaimed paycheck for you from Logicon that was issued in 2002". "Really?" I said in disbelief. "How much is it for?" Her computer couldn't tell her the exact amount but she did tell me it was more than $1000, but less that $1500.
Amazing! I have no idea how a paycheck slipped by like that. I do know that the company, Logicon, was being purchased by Northrop Grumman around that time and I wonder if the transition caused the snafu. Still, a very odd, but welcome, occurrence.
