Last Lost of the Year
5/24/2008
Another year, another season of Lost. The season finale is upon us already? How time files.
I've really enjoyed this season with it's quicker pace and more focused stories. I really only have two complaints.
Originally the show was intended to be a purely science fiction. I'm sad J.J. Abrams forced the writes to include a superstitious aspect. It would have been better without it and this season that element has been unfortunate much stronger than before.
My only other complaint is that the season finale is looking to be a bit, well, formulaic. Look at the similarities with last year's endgame:
- Ben turns himself into his enemy, gets the crap beaten out of him, but has a plan.
- A new hatch is revealed.
- The hatch contains a piece of technology that's critical to the castaways' success.
- The hatch is NOT abandoned but has someone(s) down in it (Just guessing as I haven't read any spoilers for this year).
- A main character will sacrifice themselves for the good of the others (again, just a guess but looks probable with that big honking bomb on the freighter).
So what are my guesses for this year? I was way off base last time round but here there are:
- The Orchid is not abandoned and one-armed Doctor Candle/Wickmund/Halliwax is down there to help Locke with the island-moving device.
- Jin and/or Michael are killed trying to dismantle the freighter bomb.
- The "Frozen Donkey Wheel" that the creators have taunted us with is a large time/teleportation device ala "The Time Tunnel" that requires intense cold to function (for super conductive magnets). This is the same device Ben uses to get into the middle of the desert and the cold is why he has mist rising off of him and was wearing a parka.
- Team Keamy will meet a grizzly end at the hands of Alpert and gang.
My other crazy Lost theory that's unrelated to the finale per se, is that Charles Widmore was the captain of the Black Rock and the original leader of the Others. Richard Alpert was one of his footmen and that's why the Others dress like ragged pirates. Ben wrested control of the Others, banished Widmore and moved the island so he couldn't find it.
That's all I've got. And my track record ain't stellar so no, I won't put down a red cent in a wager on my accuracy.
