Thanksgiving 2007 - Turkey Inferno Averted!
11/26/2007

"This thing is dangerous!!" my dad kept saying as he eyed the bubbling cauldron of peanut grease perched precariously on a wrought-iron stand. This was our first year trying the popular fried turkey and my dad was pretty leery of the whole process. "I can see how so many people burn their houses down using one of these things!" he continued. I was pretty confident that a little common sense could spare the Fitzgerald family home from becoming a turkey-inferno and since it's still standing, I guess I was right.

It was a fine thanksgiving weekend with the full Fitzgerald family in attendance at my parents farm enjoying the 70 degree weather and a delicious deep fried turkey. I realized as I was driving up that it's actually been a while since we've all hung out together and it was really good to see everyone. Yes, it was a very nice get away.

The weekend was also gave me a chance to catch up with a lot of other folks I've been missing. Nick and Mike on Wednesday, Scott on Thursday, and a slew of folks at Freddie's on Saturday. Top that off with a trip to see the new Beowulf film on Sunday (which was very good except the "hide the penis" silliness -- more on that later) and it was a fun busy weekend. Am I thankful? Hell yes!! :)
