Tattoo Thoughts
11/15/2007
At last weekend's party Kirk and I started discussing our notions to get tattoos. Before long I had my laptop out and we were browsing thru various designs we'd collected from the Web (he had his on a keychain flash drive). Soon a small crowd gathered and we all talked about various options and ideas. Here are some of the rough designs I've been working on:

Row 1: Hourglass plus protection symbol "protect your time"
Row 2: Something I doodled up. Not sure what it means but I like the look of it.
Row 3: Other miscellaneous candidates with no real meaning to them except the first one with is the 1939 World's Fair Trylon and Perishere
At one point, as I pulled up yet another naked guy sporting a design liked, I stopped and looked around: "Wait! Where's that 14-year-old kid?" I asked as I scanned at the crowd over my shoulder and hoped that neither he nor his parents had wandered within viewing range. Fortunately they hadn't. It's sad that we live in a society that imposes such a negative view of sex and the human body. That someone can be "sexually harassed" because I'm looking at pictures of naked people is absurd. Can I be "religiously harassed" because some one displays a crucifix? Can a pacifist be "violence harassed" by someone displaying war or boxing pictures? But I digress...
One common difficulty we all seemed to have was in coming up with a good design. Style, size and placement seemed to be a constantly shifting options. A dragon on the back? A phoenix on the arm? Maybe the ubiquitous battleship on the chest? For myself I'm thinking a mid-sized shoulder pattern much like the phony "Tomb Raider" temp tattoo I just happened to wear to the party (pardon the "I just woke up" rooster hair):
