Lil' House on Wheels
6/30/2007
Will and I drove out to look at a used Airstream last night. I'm not sure this is the trailer I'm looking for but it's pretty close. It will be interesting to see how much it brings in its EBay auction. It's owner was really nice guy named Omar who was enthusiastic about the unit. Although he never said so, I somehow imagined that he bought the trailer hoping to use it more but was stymied by the lack of enthusiasm from the rest of his family. In his four years of ownership he'd only taken four trips with it.
On the way home I asked Will what he though and he answered with his usually country-boy succinctness: "Sure it'd be cool to own a little house on wheels but how practical is it?" Something about that term, "little house on wheels", really stuck me as funny -- probably because it's so unadorned it it's accuracy. It is just a little house on wheels and would we really get any real use out of it other than maybe trekking to Burning Man and Pennsic next year? I'm not sure. But I am turning 40 this year and that should allow me at least consider one ill advised birthday gift.
Right?
