Lovin' Lost
5/9/2007
I love that Lost show. Of all the really great TV on these days it's by far my favorite. Last season was a bit lackluster but this year they've been hitting just about every episode out of the park. As we wind down into the last three episodes here are my geekalicious guesses on what the hell's going on:
Jacob is:
- A nobody from the Dharma Initiative (janitor, work man, etc.) who figured out the powers of the island and led the revolt against the Dharma scientist.
- An ancient immortal from the time of the four-toed statue.
- A super powerful Dharma computer (I don't really believe this but it'd be way cool!)
The Losties Who Die This Season Will Be:
- Charlie OR Desmond preventing Charlie's death - the prophecy must be fulfilled.
- Sayid - He's the only really competent member of the Losties and thus must die, plus the producers seem to have a thing for getting rid of minorities and unmarried women who have sex (think about it).
The Big Game Changer Will Be
Jack takes leadership of the others BUT in doing so they losties will find out why the Others considered themselves to be the "good guys" and will be forced to take up their cause. Somehow the Other's cause is linked with the island's ruins and I think that will be the setting for the next season.
The Smoke Monster Is:
It seems to be some sort of psychic resonator that maniphest itself and reacts according to the mindset of whoever it encounters. People often see it as they wish to see it and to date it's only attacked persons who were afraid or aggressive with it. Those who encounter it and react with indifference and calm seem to be ignored. It also seems to have multiple parts: small "scout" whisps and the larger smoke mass. I've no idea how it works mechanically or why it emit a combination of dinosaur, insect and mechanical noises.
Other Guesses:
- The submarine wasn't destroyed
- Naomi is just who she claims to be
- Naomi's attempt at rescue will fail horribly (duh)
- At the end of the series the island will be destroyed or lost forever
- Sawyer's possession of one of the Other's walkie-talkies will be important in one the last three episodes this year
- The reason the wreckage of flight 815 was discovered was either because the Others took steps to fabricate it and avoid more people searching for the island OR because Desmond turning the fail-safe key caused a split in the timeline.
- If my second guess above about Jacob is correct, the island could be the source of the fountain of youth stories.
Things I Have No Idea About:
- How the smoke monster works mechanically
- Who the ring lady is
- How the food drops were occurring and who was responsible
- Why no one can see the island, especially satellites from space
- Who the gay character is the producers keep mentioning
