Kate Fleming has Died

Yesterday I sat down in the barber chair, cracked opened the Alexandria Port Packet newspaper, and was very surprised to see an obituary for Kate Fleming staring me in the face. It was downright jarring to have death intrude so casually into my day and wearing such a familiar face from my youth.
You see I knew Kate casually back in high school and distinctly remember liking her. She was smart, pretty, and aloof but somehow still warm -- a good candidate for royalty in another era I'd wager. She died in an unfortunate freak accident but not before garnering enough success in to merit her own Wikipedia entry.
I'm sorry we never got to meet again as I think she would have been a person worth knowing. Sincere condolences to her partner Charlene Strong.
