Burning Man Part 3: Bloody Maryland Events
9/15/2006

Tuesday Bloody Marys

Our first event as Camp Bloody Maryland came Tuesday morning when the bar opened. People loved those drinks! The line grew and grew and we were consistently told how well we mixed them.

Cowboy Sunset Serenade

Me: "Have you been drinking?"
Undisclosed Respondent: "Well, my ass isn't hanging in the air so apparently not!!"

Tuesday night I'd been biking around with Ryan and Dave when I suddenly bottomed out with fatigue around 9:30. It was odd but I just assumed I'd been overdoing it. Not quite...

Come midday Wednesday and I was freezing. "Is it just me or has the temperature really dropped?" I asked. "Are you crazy? It's friggin' 100 degrees!" Eric shot back. I crawled into my tent, which should have been an oven, wrapped myself tight in a blanket and shivered myself to sleep. This cold/flu thing would plague me till we reached Reno the next Monday and really cramped my energy levels in the evenings. Getting sick was one of my few disappointments of this trip.

Sick or not, I was determined to make the cowboy party so I took a large helping of cold medicine, pain killers, and washed it all down with wine and whisky - this might explain the jockstrap and ass-less chaps I chose for my evening's wardrobe...

The party was great and one of my favorite events of the whole trip. I'm a sucker for the small gatherings among friends.

Thursday Bloody Marys

I knew using alcohol and pharmaceuticals to ignore a bad cold would exact a weighty toll the next morning and boy did it. While the rest of the group served up another round of bloody marys to an eager crowd I wallowed in misery while trying to put on a good face. The crowd drank. I slept.

Prohibition Party

"Remember! What happens at Burning Man...
is published all over the internet."
- My take on BM Shenanigans

When the Prohibition party rolled around I again hit the cold medicines hard in an attempt to be social, but my heart just wasn't in it. Looking back at the pictures of myself I realize I looked as bad as I felt. The party was nice, if a bit small. I also took the time to slip out to Astro Pup's Big Gay Prom for a bit. The Gay Prom was fun had all the decorations one would expect from a prom. Add in the fact that I had no date and it felt just like being back in high school. :)
