Birthday Cake Confusion
8/15/2006
The band had finished playing, the crowd had gotten large, loud, and well "spirited" and Will decided it was time for my birthday cake. The bartender, an attractive young lady, disappeared and came back with a brilliantly burning cake, deposited it in front of me, and the entire place erupted in to the birthday song. When it was done I blew out the candles in one huff and reached for the cutting knife...
STOP!! DON'T MESS WITH IT! Will hissed in my ear. IT'S THE WRONG CAKE!!
Huh? Looking down at the icing I read: "Happy Birthday Ricky!"
Ricky? I seemed to remember someone mentioning another birthday person in the bar. Will leaned over to the bartender and whispered in her ear. Her face took on a ghastly appearance as she hurriedly collected the confection, and holding it quite low, slunk back to the kitchen.
She soon returned with yet another cake, this one larger and crowned with a Batman candle. Again I blew out the candle and again the crowd erupted into the birthday song for me. "At this rate", I mused, "I WILL be 42 in no time".
As for Ricky, I never did see her cake reappear...
