Passing On the Comic Collection
6/19/2006

This weekend I packed up and gave away the bulk of my comic book collection. It wasn't an easy thing to do. Most of them I've dragged around with me since high school. Every time I started to rid myself of them I'd start glancing across their covers and be reminded of a particular summer or a certain group of friends. Then I'd pack them all back into the closet. This time I followed thru. I'm not sure why exactly -- It just felt like it was time.

I did keep about 10% of them that were my favorites, but the rest -- all gone. Oddly, I still buy new comic books all the time. I never keep any of them except the hard cover archives, but I do buy them. There's a great simplistic charm to the medium that I never seem to tire of.

From the Golden age it's always the DC titles, from the Silver, Marvel, and of the current fare I'm inclined toward the smaller, independent groups like America's Best Comics (which is owned by DC) or some of the better graphic novels.

If you'd like to join in on the fun (and net the Band an Amazon Kickback to boot) I'd recommend:
