Weekend Recap
5/15/2006
Something in the nature of Saturday's gig really stressed me out. I'm not certain what it was but I came home exhausted and crashed on the couch for hours eventually falling asleep. When I awoke it was already getting dark and I half considered just packing it in for the night. I called Will who was back in West Va. visiting his folks and he urged me not to waste the evening glued to the couch.
WILL: "You should go out. Hit Freddie's or the Eagle. It'll relax you."
ME: "I don't know. I could just get some sleep and make a good start tomorrow morning."
WILL: "Aw, take a shower and you'll wake up. It'll do you good to get out of the house."
So I did, and had damn fine evening. I ran into Travis and Dan and then their friend Nick. Nick was a hunky forest ranger with a nice laid-back demeanor. We hit it right off and spent most of the night hanging out together.
The karaoke was also a notch above normal at Freddie's. A group of bear-type guys took the stage and filled the place with surprisingly good renditions of classic rock tunes. One of them could also do an eerie, and I mean almost perfect, Cher imitation. I swear if you closed your eyes he sounded just like her. At one point one of the other patrons leaned over to me, pulled a crumpled cigarette from his face and croaked: "He's amazing isn't he. We call him the Cher-Bear!".
Cher-Bear...
I'm not making this up.
So that was my weekend. A stressful gig, a hunky forest ranger, and a hirsute singer belting out Cher tunes with astonishing precision.
How many times do I have to say I live a charmed life?
