In Trimming Branches
5/13/2006
There's something very calming in trimming my bonsai tree before a show -- cutting back the overgrowth and clearing out the dead leaves. Perhaps it's just reassuring that my notoriously black thumb hasn't doomed it yet.
The band is playing again today and I find myself, as always, agitated before the show. Not really nervous, per se, just very expectant. I want everything planed, arranged, and controlled for. Everything tucked into order. It's a failing endeavor, of course -- something is always misplaced, unforeseen, on unexpected -- but I find the attempt very centering.
