Thomas Dolby
5/9/2006

Will and trucked up to the Birchmere last night to catch Thomas Dolby. Jim joined us and except for some overpriced wine and a few software glitches Dolby's show was interesting and unique. I must say, however, that I would have liked to have seen more people playing the gear and less sequencing. There were moments where it all came across a bit like a karaoke show. Still, he had a great look, a cool rig, and a well-done presentation. It was well worth the price of admission -- and the expensive wine.

I remember listening to "Blinded Me With Science" in high school while driving around in my dad's GTO. My parents always thought stereo equipment was a waste of money so we always has the cheapest, most horrible sounding units in the house. When I wanted to really hear something I had to take it to the car where my dad's love of his autos extended to installing a good sound system in them. I recall often driving around with no destination in mind just listening to music. "Blinded Me With Science" got its fair share of plays on those trips with it's menacing string lines and burbling sound effects blaring over the engine's rumble.
