12/20/2005 - On Unlawful Spying

President Bush's assertion that the "war on terror" allows his administration to ignore U.S. law and spy on American citizens without court oversight is outrageous, offensive, and deeply dangerous.

A commonly cited maxim of the United States style of democracy is that "no one is above the law". Were this actually true, then prison time for those involved in this clearly unlawful behavior would be being discussed; but sadly, presidents do not go to jail. They do, however, resign, and perhaps it's time this president to consider doing just that.
