Pride, Expo, and Such
6/14/2005
Will and I actually made it down to Pride on Sunday. Sadly we couldn't stay too long and it seems we left before all of our friends arrived. From the look of the Web, it was a pretty good turnout of the local Web diarist. Pride seemed much smaller than before. Maybe it just because we got there too early, but I'm not sure. Is it my imagination, or did anyone else feel this way?
The reason for our early departure is I wanted to catch the tail ends of the Art Deco Expo and the mostly Latino Arlandria-Chirilagua Festival right near our house.
The Expo was great and had several tempting items that I soundly resisted -- and two I didn't. We needed a new lamp anyway, the the book, Ultimo, well, I'll write about that later.
The Arlandria-Chirilagua Festival was over and done by the time we got to it. The crowd must have been kind of, uh, exuberant, because I've never seen so much trash left over from a street fair. I'm sad I missed it. As we were walking home Will and I talked about how exciting it must be to be latino and live in the area. Arlandria is filled with young latinos, most of whom seem to more strongly identify with their native culture than that of mainstream America's. I imagine there must be a great sense of commradery, community, and "buzz" to life for them in the area -- kind of like Dupont Circle must have been in it's heyday
