3/6/2005 - My Brother's Wedding
Announced only one month ago, my brother wed his girlfriend of twelve years down in Captiva Florida last Saturday the 26th.There was some reservations about the two families mixing as we're cut from rather different cloth, but everyone was on good behavior and seemed to enjoyed themselves. No embarrassingly drunken uncles, no one falling in a punch bowl, and everyone to the chapel on time. Even the weather cooperated. The dark, rainy skies that greeted our arrival on Friday gave way to a beautiful sunny day come Saturday morning. The Reverend was also very good. Unlike the one for my Grandmother's funeral, this one kept focused on the task at hand and offered some keen insights on marriage as a long-term process, not a quickly achieved status.
All in all it went smoother than anyone could have hoped for.
Wedding Highlights:
- The rehearsal dinner at the Captiva Sunshine Cafe
- The ceremony itself at Chapel-by-the-Sea Inter-Denominational church
- The reception at the Sanctuary Country Club
Other Trip Highlights
- Seeing Senator Dick Gephart hanging out in the airport.
- Dinner at the ultra-kitschy Bubble Room.
- Seeing the damage from the big hurricane we'd heard so much about. Just look at these before and after pix of the same spot.
- Another couples' beach wedding complete with a guy on the steel drum.
