1/15/2005 - The Failed Crusade For WMD
This week the US officially concluded is search for weapons of mass destruction in Iraq. The verdict? No such beasts. In other words, the war was a mistake.
21 months ago I was a tepid supporter of this war. Now I'm quite certain it was a sizeable mistake. A mistake to wage it, and even worse, a mistake to wage it with such incompetence. I've become very cynical of the Bush administration and of American policy in general -- something I've never been before. Hell, I even voted for a Democrat for the first time in my life.
Despite all this, I'm still dimly optimistic that a democracy can be salvaged from this mess. For reasons I can't fathom I still suspect that dumb luck will pull our arrogant asses out of the fire once again.
But then again, I was sure the insurgency would run out of steam months ago...
