8/1/2004 - The Captain's Boat
I've been given a boat. That boat you see in the pictures above. In the first picture, take around 1980, I'm the guy towards the front of the bow. The second picture was taken by myself the same year, and the third yesterday.
The man who gave me the boat is an amazing man, brilliant and energetic, who I largely regard as a second father. He commanded a ship during WWII, holds degrees from both MIT, and the Naval Academy, has written books, obtained patents, and is an accomplished pianist. I always feel terribly unaccomplished in his presence and he forever looms in my mind as a standard by which to measure my own life.
Efforts with the band will keep me from trying out the boat for a while, but I really hope to give her a run soon.
