6/7/2004 - At Home

I'm home sick again with a sinus infection. This absurd cycle of "allergies - allergies - infection" that's plagued me for years has got to stop. It wastes too much damn time. I'm already trying some new drugs from Kaiser and will keep with it till I find something that works.

I always liked Ronald Regan, and It was shocking, but hardly surprising, to hear of his death over the weekend. He came into office when I was a kid and even back then, he felt like a much needed breath of fresh political air. A typhoon of smiles and common sense that blasted away so much of the pessimism and psycho-babble gripping the nation. I still find it amazing when writers wax about the "innocent" and "optimistic" 70s. Just what country were they living in?

It's true Regan had many flaws, and I can't say I agreed with all of his political positions, but he was exactly the right man for the job in the early 80s. He was certainly the greatest politician I've witnessed in my life, and I imagine it will be quite some time before we see his equal in the oval office.
