4/8/2004 - Cinnamon Bay - Days 3 & 4
In case you missed it, see parts: 1, 2, 3, 4, and 5
Not too much happened on the third day. It was a recharge day where we lounged around the camp, drank a bunch of wine, and swam in the ocean. The surf had really kicked up and it was a lot of fun getting tossed about by the larger waves.
Rested and ready, we took off early on the fourth and last full day of our trip to visit Watermelon bay. At the bay there was another set of ruins and calmer waters more suited for snorkeling. The ruins stood on a high spot overlooking the bay and featured most prominently the remains of a Dutch windmill. We toured them briefly and headed down to water as I was eager to use my new toy: the WP-DC800.
The WP-DC800 is a watertight enclosure for my digital Elph camera allowing me to take pictures underwater. I have to say I'm shocked at how well it worked. It kept the camera perfectly dry and allowed me to take some of my favorite photos of the trip.

Mongoose Raider
As we were getting ready to get in the water there was a bunch of unattended gear next to us where a group of mongooses kept burrowing into one of the packs. They were hysterical to watch and I took several pictures. We called around to see if anyone owned the stuff, but no one claimed it, so we went snorkeling. When we returned there were four older ladies sitting in the spot exclaiming that someone had eaten their sandwiches. We told them what had happened.
"It was mongooses" we said.
(pause)
"Mongooses?" they replied.
"Yes, mongooses."
"Mongooses ate our sandwiches!!"
"Yes, we tried to chase them off, but they kept coming back. We have pictures if you'd like to see.""Mongooses???"
We ended up getting their e-mail address and sending them the picture below. They were tickled to receive it.
