Thought on the War
4/14/2003
A couple of people have comments that I haven't had a lot to say about the War. To be honest, I just feel that its a bit early to have anything to say. I mean war is nothing if not chaotic and unpredictable, and I find it premature to pass judgment on our efforts so early into the campaign. Still, since people are asking, here are a few notions that come to my mind:
- I'm happily surprised at the relatively low number of casualties we've suffered.
- I'm not a bit surprised at the Iraqi army's quick capitulation.
- I do find that Sadam's resistance seemed mysteriously devoid of any real planning. That he would pass up so many obvious military opportunities (burning more oil wells, blowing up damns, etc.) seems very odd indeed...
- I love the "Most Wanted" deck of cards and predict they'll become hot collector's items. Hell, I'd love to own a set myself.
- I agree with Syria that if we plan to disarm the Middle East of weapons of mass destruction then we certainly shouldn't overlook Israel in the process.
- I'm beginning to get exceedingly nervous that they can't find even one banned weapon in Iraq.
- I'm reservedly hopeful that this whole nation building thing just might work.
And finally:
- I wholly supported the war in Afghanistan. I reluctantly supported the war with Iraq. But I have only firm resistance to offer towards any notion of war with Syria. The Bush administration better just shoot that trial balloon right out of the sky...
