1/24/2002 - Nachos, News, and 500lbs of Trouble
Had a great mexican dinner with Jay last night as he entertained us with tales from the firehouse. The whole September 11th affair, his arrival at this grisly shooting, and a humorous story of trying to get a 500lb woman to the hospital (the part where her wheelchair tire blew out while going down a flight of stairs was soda-spitting funny!).
Notes on the news:
- Of course the Pope wants to regulate the internet. What good is a religious leader if they aren't railing against sex and scientific progress?
- Clearly the Taliban being held in Cuba ARE prisoners of war and should be treated accordingly. The United States always makes a mess of things when it tries to classify a war as a "police action" or some such nonsense. This is no time for us to lose the moral high ground.
- And speaking of the war, the Pentagon is really shaping up. I'm impressed by how much is already rebuilt. Jay said that they plan to have it completely restored before the one year anniversary of Sept. 11th.
- And, of course, Netscape (AOL) sues Microsoft. The lawsuit we've all been expecting! Looks to be more fun than a Wrestlemania marathon on TV! I'm keenly interested in seeing the outcome.
