Halloween 2001
11/1/2001
Will and I did something a little different this year. The local bar Freddies was having this big dinner and show featuring drag queen Chris Peterson , so we made reservations and went.
I have to say I'm not too big a fan of drag queens. I have nothing against them, of course, I just don't identify with much of what they do. I've never seen The Sound of Music or a Marilyn Monroe movie. Endless references to Betty Davis draw a blank in me, and I have NO idea who Peggy Lee is. I just don't know most of this material.
However.
Chris Peterson was brilliant. I mean REALLY good. I haven't seen anything that howlingly funny, that witty and well presented in a looong time. I was laughing till I was hoarse. Yet as funny as he was, it wasn't his humor that impressed me the most - it was his voice.
When he first came on it took me a few minutes to realize he wasn't lip-syncing. No, with perfect pitch and high notes to match Robert Plant's , he sang the whole show; changing styles and tones as easily as he changed wigs. It was impressive
So that was our Halloween. Greet the trick or treaters, deal with missing reservations, and watch some man in a dress sing and make jokes as we chewed down our dinner.
A charmed life?
