10/21/2001 - Pumpkin Carving Party of 2001

The Great Pumpkin Carving Party of 2001 has come and gone and here I sit, amid the mess, scarfing down the last of the Lime Flavored Doritos . The mess itself is minimal. Its amazing how the older you get, the less you have to cleanup after a party .

The party itself was great, with a fine turnout and a nice mellow atmosphere. People seemed to enjoy just hanging out and carving the pumpkins. Sorry I don't have pictures like last year , but I was so busy running around doing the party I had little time for photography. Maybe Mel will send me a copy of her prints.

This gathering marked my first " merging of worlds ", were I invited both my str8 and gay friends to the same event. It started out predictable enough: gays in the living room, Str8 ones out back, and me dashing between the two. <Sigh> Fortunately that ended with the arrival of the hamburgers and the pumpkin carving itself when everyone moved out back.

I was really glad that my estranged ex Tom Williams decided to put in an appearance. Tom and I always had a rocky relationship and after not seeing him for a year and a half. I wasn't sure he'd come, but he did. When someone like that walks into the room the strangest mixture of emotions swirl about your head. A weird inner equilibrium emerges; caused not by a lack of feelings, but by a great many of them, all pulling in different directions. A manic serenity. We talked. It was good.
