Gay Pride 2001
6/13/2001
Went down with Will and hit the Gay Pride Festival this last weekend. The weather was perfect and I'd say we had a fairly good time.
The parade itself was smaller this year (more on that later), but not bad. Your standard cavalcade of drag queens, leather men, Politicians, and beer vendors. I was surprised that Men on the Net had a float as so few dot coms were present this year. PFLAG got the biggest cheers from the crowd, as they always do.

Happy Hairy Homos?
And who could ask for more...
Afterwards we hit the street fair to take in the crowds and some greasy food. The normal and mundane far outnumbered the outrageous and shocking, but the eye (and my camera) gravitates toward the latter. Corporate entities were out in full force: Merril Lynch, AOL, and many, many others were present. There was even a Laura Croft look-alike handing out Tomb Raider tattoos.
RED Bull Beer had the most elaborate set up. A full chapel for gay marriages, complete with a giant cake and wedding gifts.
We only ran into a handful of people we knew. Mike Madison of the Renegades and a few other Will knew. That was about it.
Didn't see much of the entertainment, but did catch a fairly good lesbian rock band called the Tomboys.
And that was the day.
