1/20/2001 - Inauguration Day
Inauguration day here in our nation's capitol. The city is already a mess with planned festivities, and several inches of snow are expected later this afternoon. Its going to be a disaster to try and do anything else in the city today.
A disaster that Will and I are going to avoid. Not only due to our disinterest, but also the twin colds we seem to have developed. He has it worse than I do. That means I have to make the soda runs, but also get to make the movie runs and pick out the videos. (Hmm.. Now exactly how did Godzilla beat that giant moth creature? )
Speaking of movies I've been meaning to write up a few comments about the film Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon . This has to be one of the most beautiful films I've seen in quite some time. The action, the drama, and even the romance works for me in a way in which most other cinema fails. The characters seemed far more genuine that their hollywood counterparts, even when they were flying across rooftops and leaping into trees. Perhaps the film just his me the right way at the right time, but I found it truly moving. I've been accused by numerous lovers of being a tad, ahem, unromantic. Walking out of the theater I wished I could gather those people up and make them sit and watch this film with me. Romance doesn't have to be sappy and shmaltzy. It doesn't have to be played with overstated affect and accompanied by tender piano music. All it needs is two genuinely in love people... who can never be together.
Now that's romance baby!!
Ok gotta go. Will is trying to vacuum upstairs and Pronto keeps attacking the vacuum cleaner. Better go get him out of the way.
Oh, and the link to the Crouching Tiger Website is here , but I wouldn't recommend it. Its one of those terrible corporate Flash sites that takes forever to load and has no real information. Typical.
