Pumpkins and Macabe Nouveau
11/1/2000
Happy Halloween. The day itsef was pretty lousy. Mistake after mishap. In the end I decided to celebrate by getting some rabit ears, actually hooking up the TV, and watching Buffy the Vampire Slayer. Of course it turned out to be a rerun. sigh. Some days you just can’t win.
Pumpkin carving pictures are up. Go have a look.
Eventful weekend. Shane showed up on Saturday and we spent the evening taking him to dinner, and out to the Eagle. Looong day. Sunday we prepared for the Pumpkin carving party and it turned out really well. Larry, Jack, Brian Phi, Lea, Pete and John all showed up. People had a great time and the pumpkins turned out great. I was surprised at what a success it was. Lots of fun.
Monday Shane and I went to see an Art Nouveau exhibit. It was quite interesting. I was acquainted with the organic snaky vines of the nouveau look, but the darker elements were unfamiliar. Many of the paintings were downright macabre. Beautiful women stalked by ghoulish specters or leering serpents. From the prominence of such works at the exhibit, I can only assume these were major themes of the movement.
