Driving the Parkway
7/25/2000
A beautiful gray misty drive this morning. Winding roads, hazy trees, and a light misting on the windshield. Cool and calming, even above the sandpaper manners of other drivers. Like pulling a smooth, round pebble out of a cold running stream.
The George Washington Memorial Parkway is the one scenic stretch of road in the whole of DC's highway hell. With stone embankments, majestic bridges and a lush canopy of trees, it actually makes the drive to work almost enjoyable.
Along its path are numerous scenic stops. I've never actually taken advantage of one of these, but someday I will. A day when I feel less hurried to get to the desk, the computer and the chores that pay a day's wages.
But not this day. Not this week.
This week I'm moving.
