4/3/2000 - Tom's Bike

I dropped off Tom's bike yesterday. A beat up old red thing with worn tires. It was the last part of him in my life. As I made the long drive to his house, that bike in the rearview window kept reminding me of our one-and-a-half years together. I couldn't help but feel a little sad.

When I arrived I was surprised he was home. I had figured he would be in church and I could just leave it locked up and go. As it was, I dragged the bike up to his door and knocked. He showed up and I think we spoke all of two sentences to each other. He did invited me in, but I just wanted to leave.

So I did.

Driving home I felt much better. The sky was gloomy and overcast, but my mood had improved. I wiggled out of my jacket and just drove. No radio, no traffic and no deep thoughts. Just plans to call Will and invite him over for pancakes.

On the lighter side of the weekend:

I got up Saturday morning to go to my PI recertification class, hopped in my car and out from the radio comes blaring “Secret Agent Man...” just as it started up (I'm not making this up). One of those odd "my life is a sitcom" moments.

Met Jimbo out at the Eagle later that night. He was fun to hang with. Notable in the motley crowd were a pair of Lesbians dressed as Royal Canadian Mounties (Again, I'm not making this stuff up). My faith in Duddley Do-Right restored!

And yes, YES!! The THIRD scanner I ordered last week actually works. I ended up having pancakes with Jay and got some great fireman pix of his to work with.

I also rented the Mystery Men. God what a scream. If you do get it make sure you get the DVD. The funniest line in the movie was cut, but its in the DVD extra sections. Blue Raja: "I hear the Sphinx can only be contacted by visiting a certain mexican restaurant and ordering the proper combination platter for lunch....." - I was completely howling by this point.
