3/3/2000 - South Beach 2000
South beach is a interesting and magical place. An odd mix of sophisticated stylings and childish entertainment where bare-chested muscle men sit alongside well coifed bankers in trendy cafes. You can wear anything you want. From designer clothes to ratty jeans it all blends in. South beach has the rich and the middle-classed, the beautiful and the mundane. The beaches are idyllic and the food excellent. We didn't do much shopping, but it looks to have a great many stores. I can't say I would want to live there. I think the glitz would wear thin quickly, but its great for a long weekend. If you go, make sure you stay in one of the little Deco hotels, not the big impersonal ones.
We spent most of our time walking for miles and miles and photographing architecture. It really has an amazing collection of Art Deco buildings. Something about the colorful facades just works so well with the bight sun and warm beaches. I wish I was back there now... - Feb 15, 2003

The Marsellias hotel in South Beach
Weird Occurrences:
- Will: "What kind of crowd is tomorrow night at this bar?"
Lady: "Tomorrow is the homosexuals.' (In an odd deadpan delivery) - Hotel Clerk: "We have no record of your reservation..." (ok, so that's not really weird at all)
- Not one rollerblader crashing (I was really kind of hoping.....)
Recommendations:
- The Governor Hotel - It was great little place with a pool and laid back atmosphere. Reasonable rates, but you might want one closer to 7th street if you are adverse to walking.
- Long Walks - There is so much eye candy that this is a place best explored on foot.
- The Twist Bar - Good place with many levels and a wide assortment of people.
- Crobar- Great if you like the big club scene - not my kind of place.
- The Tides - If you can afford it, the dinner is excellent and the service second to none.
