2/25/2000 - Watching the Fights
It feels like spring. Warm 60 degree weather in the middle of February. I'm not complaining.
Last night I got to watch a fight outside of my apartment. A big fat white guy squared off against a smaller black guy with long braided hair. The white guy was yelling something about wanting his microphone back and I think his opponent was the owner of that new studio across the street.
A few things struck me as the fight progressed:
First was just how bad these guys were. Their punches were telegraphed, their kicks laughable, and neither ever pressed an advantage. It was not until one threw a big rock at the other's head that any real damage was inflicted.
The second was my real desire to charge into the fray. Not that I really wanted to fight, its just that when you see someone doing something so badly you want to step in and say : "No you idiot! THIS is how you punch someone!" Maybe I've been watching too many episodes of Buffy.
So who won? Can't really say. The fight wandered around the corner and I didn't feel like tagging along for the spectacle. Later I saw cops talking to the white guy as paramedics patching up his bleeding head (he got the rock). The black guy and his friends were nowhere to be seen....
