| Pennsic war, or just Pensic, or just War, is a very large medieval reenactment event that is held every year in Pennsylvania. It is sponsored by the Society of Creative Anachronism, and attendance to this event is hovering around 10,000 people! At Pennsic there are countless merchants who sell period goods, loads of arts and crafts seminars, feast, royal balls, and of course, battles! The battles are done with armor an rattan weapons, and are quite the thing to see. These mini wars often involve hundreds of armored individuals charging across the fields! They also have archery contests, and individual fencing competitions.
Most people do not take part in the battles. For most this is a chance to socialize, and go on a cool "camping trip in costumes". There are endless parties that last till the wee hours of the morning, most complete with dancing around fire pits, groups of drummers, and a lot of drinking. Specific groups of peoples stake out the same camp sites each year, and their encampments are often lavish and quite impressive. This is the first war I have attended in 6 years, but many of the same groups I knew are still camping in the same place. This tends to give a very "family" feel to the whole thing.
